Project description
Tebulo performed a strength calculation for a tensioner squeeze cylinder for a renowned cylinder manufacturer. Due to high pressures combined with a small wall thickness (due to limited installation space), Tebulo performed a control calculation of the cylinder wall deformation.
The pressure deforms the cylinder wall, and combined with the deformation of the rocker arm, it's possible that the maximum allowable gap between the piston and the cylinder wall could become too large, potentially damaging the piston seals. FEM analysis demonstrated that the combined forces would cause the maximum gap between the piston and the cylinder wall to become too large for the piston seals. The cylinder design was subsequently modified to achieve an acceptable gap between the cylinder wall and the piston.
