Project description

The IJ Tunnel is 1,040 meters long and connects Amsterdam-Noord with the city center. The tunnel's entire control and network system has been replaced by a modern fiber-optic network, which runs along a 2,000-meter route.

The network consists of five separate, redundant networks, making failure virtually impossible. There's also a backup system that immediately takes over the tunnel in the event of a failure. Cofely asked Tebulo for assistance with the project's hardware design.

Tebulo used Systems Engineering (SE) to design the installations as efficiently as possible. The number of I/Os was also reduced by 20% without any loss of functionality. We assisted with the FAT, SAT, and project management. The installations were connected in the central tunnel channel to the newly designed and installed RIO cabinets. The cabinets in this channel were kept as compact as possible to minimize disruption to the channel.

New panels were designed to install the RIO stations in the buildings. These panels allowed for a quick transition from the old system to the new one. A plug-and-play installation method was used, minimizing traffic disruption.
