25 kV Station Maasvlakte

25 kV Station Maasvlakte

Branche: Energy

The project entailed replacing the existing 25kV COQ installation at the Maasvlakte substation with a 25kV installation housed in a newly constructed 25kV distribution substation.

Project description

Stedin is the regional grid operator for gas and electricity in the Randstad region and the Rotterdam port area, with offices in Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Delft. As a grid operator, Stedin is responsible for the construction, expansion, and maintenance of the transmission and distribution network.

Stedin decided to replace the existing 25kV COQ (gas-insulated switchgear) installation at the Maasvlakte substation with a new 25kV system, housed in a newly constructed 25kV distribution substation. Tebulo Engineering was responsible for the complete detailed engineering of all aspects of the new 25kV Maasvlakte substation, including the 25kV installation, its associated control and regulation systems, and all building-related utility systems. The substation is now fully integrated into the Rotterdam high-voltage grid and is operational.

This project was carried out in collaboration with Advin, who handled the structural and civil engineering components. Tebulo Engineering was responsible for project coordination and engineering. The detailed engineering involved specifying a 25kV double-busbar installation consisting of 20 bays. Each bay is equipped with an IED (Intelligent Electronic Device), enabling remote control and monitoring of the installation (including switch positions, status, voltages, currents, etc.).

The scope of engineering also included building-related utility systems. This involved performing lighting and heating calculations, as well as designing the 400VAC distribution board, occupancy detection, water leak detection, emergency lighting, and fire alarm systems. We also provided construction supervision during the execution of the electrical work. Upon completion of the project—following the Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)—all updated data were incorporated into the project documentation.
