Project description
TATA Steel Nederland is part of the Tata Steel Group, one of the largest steel companies in the world. The company in the Netherlands is engaged in the production, processing, and distribution of steel. At the Kooksfabriek 1 plant, the valves in the fuel gas system need replacing.
The fuel gas system regulates the gas supply to the incinerator. Coke is produced in the incinerator through heating. The mechanically linked valves must be replaced by ball valves with pneumatically operated actuators. This involves a total of more than 1,400 actuators.
Tebulo's task was to investigate what would be needed to replace these cranes. Once the specifications were known, a pneumatic system had to be designed, supported by various calculations. The main focus of the assignment was the requirement that 1,400 actuators be switched within 10 seconds.
A capacity calculation was performed to determine the boundary conditions for air consumption, velocities, pressure losses, lengths, pipe diameters, and any buffer tanks. Components were then selected based on the data obtained.
