Project description

Tebulo, through its main contractor Imtech, has been awarded the contract for the engineering and work preparation for the relocation of over 950 laboratory installations and pilot plants. These were all located in the buildings at the old SRTCA (Shell Research and Technology Centre Amsterdam) site and had to be moved to a single, large new building at the new STCA (Shell Technology Centre Amsterdam) site, which was built near the old site.

Moving the installations to the new location was one of the most complicated technical relocations ever undertaken worldwide. The sheer scale, the variety of installations, and the timeframe required to move everything made it a significant challenge. To minimize downtime, a six-month planning period was used. The 950 installations were spread across 27 different buildings, all of which were moved to a single new multifunctional building. The installations were moved as much as possible individually, minimizing delays for research and development.

Based on the previously completed basic engineering, we physically mapped all the installations. For each installation, we created a manual outlining the actions needed to dismantle it, then reassemble it at the new location and connect it to the existing utilities.

To map all installations as consistently as possible, we created a database in which all activities and actions could be recorded. Newly required materials (gas detection, ladder tracks, cable trays, cables, connectors, grounding, etc.) were also added and connected to this database. Material lists could then be generated from the database.

During the actual move, Tebulo provided building coordinators who were responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the installations to be relocated.
